Crowd-sourcing
crowdsourcing : act of taking a job traditionally performed by an employee or contractor, and outsourcing it to an undefined, gaenerally large group of people, in the form of an open call. (e.g. wikipedia)
sample from class : Assignment zero ( http://zero.newassignment.net/ ) : bringing journalist together. Volunteers working and building up information.
"pro-am" : " The "ams" are simply people getting together on their own time to contribute to a project in journalism that for their own reasons they support. The "pros" are journalists guiding and editing the story, setting standards, overseeing fact-checking, and publishing a final version."
positive : low cost, speed up compleation time, large amount of data gathered.
negative : more likely to fail due to lack of monetary motivation, too few participants, lower quality of work, lack of personal interest in project, global language barriers, or difficulty managing a large-scale crowdsourced project.
